University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: BL04-29.  The Custom House is the building on the right with the clocks.  Big Ben = the nickname of the great bell of the clock in the tower of the Palace of Westminster (Houses of Parliament), London, England.  The tower itself is often called Big Ben.   The Custom House clock in Shanghai also sounded the 'Westminster chimes'.
