University of Bristol – Historical Photographs of China reference number: DH-s136.  This photograph was taken in 1880 at the Chance Brothers factory in Smethwick, West Midlands, England.  Both the lantern and the lens were made at Chance Brothers.  They were shipped out and installed at the Dodd Island Lighthouse, on the easternmost point of Quemoy Island (Chin-men; Jinmen; Kinmen Island, Taiwan).  The lighthouse was first lighted on 18 October 1883.
