Translation of the caption in Chinese on the back of the print (1941.12,在妙峰山,我们居住的农民家庭): In December 1941, the peasant family we lived with at Miaofeng Mountain. This photograph was reproduced in 'Dragon Fangs' by Claire and William Band (London, 1947), plate II, and captioned: "The heroic Kong family who, at the risk of their own lives, sheltered us for two weeks from Japanese search parties. They are here seen standing on the narrow footpath outside their mountain hut, December 26, 1941." 'Dragon Fangs' was republished in USA as 'Two Years with the Chinese Communists' (Yale University Press, 1948). This photograph was also reproduced in ‘The Unknown War, North China 1937-1945' by Michael Lindsay (London, 1975), with the caption: Peasant family with whom we stayed.
