University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: Ru01-034. On the tablet there were four Chinese characters "K'u chieh t'ian pao (苦节天褒)" memorialising a Chinese officer's aunt, who had brought him up.  The Chinese officer's name was T'ao I (陶易).  These four Chinese characters were written by the Qianlong( 乾隆) emperor. South Street, Weihaiwei (Weihai).
