University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: PC27-025. This picture shows on the right, the first locally built engine ‘Rocket of China’. On the left is Baldwin 4-4-0 No. 45 which was imported from USA in 1897.  Photograph taken outside a locomotive shed at Tongshan works, c.1898. The figure standing at the front of the engine is believed to be G. D. Churchward, who was Locomotive Superintendent until 1898. See PC27-296.
