University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: To-s19. The Lunghua (Longhua) Civilian Assembly Centre (C.A.C.) was an internment camp located on what is now the campus of Shanghai High School. Photographer's blind stamp: Oscar Seepol Shanghai. Photograph taken by an Oscar Seepol studio photographer (maybe Oscar Seepol himself?) soon after the relief of the camp. The hut in the background is named "The Waterloo" (see the London Transport tube station symbol on the hut). The girl in the queue, in white, holding a kettle and a thermos flask, is Peggy Hide (see 'The Sunday Telegraph', 13 August 1995). The bare chested man with a thermos flask, third in the queue (below the Waterloo sign), is David Hopkins Davies, missionary; the man behind the water vat is Oliver 'Nutty' Hall, who formerly worked for the Chinese Maritime Customs, and then after 1938, at Holt's Wharf, managed by Butterfield & Swire.
