University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: JC-s462. On the stern: MON LEI / ABERDEEN. This boat was built in c.1920 in Aberdeen, near Hong Kong and was once owned by Robert Ripley of ‘Ripley’s Believe it or Not’ fame. Ripley kept the boat on the east coast of USA, where this photograph is thought to have been taken. The junk was used as a party boat and also for advertising.
