The Fu was a Chinese palace (Su Wang Fu, owned by Prince Su), where thousands of Chinese Christian converts had sheltered during the siege. Russian soldiers on guard among the ruins. Photograph by Yamamoto Sanshichiro, published in ‘Views of the North China Affair’ (1901) and captioned: ‘16. Sho-Ching-Wang-Foo in Peking where there has been a conflagration.’
