Notes

University of Bristol – Historical Photographs of China reference number: HR01-078. This photograph shows the south corner of the ‘Taikoo Dockyard Native Housing Village’, an eight-building complex. The tram line on the Shau Kei Wan Road (formerly Shaukiwan Road), runs from south-east to north-west. The photographer was near the single-story market, a corner of which is visible on the right edge of the photograph. The street between the market and nearest building was First Street, which was later renamed Tai On Street. Opposite to Third to Fifth Streets, on the other side of the tram line, was a huge boulder, looking like a small hill in HR01-078, so there were no houses there yet. See Sw07-027.
