University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: JM01-068. Communist revolutionary workers had seized control of parts of the city in March 1927. Within weeks, they were betrayed by their estwhile allies, led by Chiang Kai-shek, and massacred. See GJ01-109. The same photograph can be found on the Virtual Shanghai platform, alongside others in the series, held in the French Foreign Ministry Archives.
