University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: Mi01-068. A sanxian (三弦) is a three-stringed Chinese lute, which is plucked and has a fingerboard. The man with the hand gong draws attention to the busking blind musician. The sign on the building ‘F.H 26’ shows firefighters that there is a nearby fire hydrant (water supply); the figure 26 indicating that the hydrant is 26 ft (nearly 8 metres) from the sign.
