University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: NA16-009. Image from an album in The National Archives referenced as ‘HONG KONG 3. Views of Hong Kong from the 1860s to the 1920s' (CO 1069-446). Victoria Prison was the first prison built in Hong Kong. It was built in 1841. The outer wall is topped with glass from broken bottles, set in concrete. The prisoners appear to be exercising in the yard, under some drying laundry. Ho Chi Minh was imprisoned here in the early 1930s. See NA16-011.
