Notes

University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: OH02-27.  The pagoda was damaged during an earthquake on 1 June 1786: the north-eastern corner of the pagoda collapsed entirely and a massive crack appeared in the building. In Spring 1913, the American Luther Knight (1879-1913) took at least two photographs of this pagoda, which are reproduced in 'Looking back at Chengdu: Through the Lens of an American Photographer in the early Twentieth Century' (China Travel and Tourism Press, 2013). The site was the Longxing Temple (龙兴寺), in Peng county 彭县 (now Pengzhou city 彭州市, north of Chengdu), Sichuan province.  Further information: http://www.kepu.net.cn/english/quake/ruins/rns09.html.
