University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: Sw32-043. Khaki cloth Kodak Negative Album, 12 cm x 9.5 cm. 210 negatives sized 1.5 inches x 1.25 inches -:- 40mm x 30mm. The album was later labelled P62/IX.  John Finnie was born in Greenock, Scotland, in 1897, and came to Taikoo Dockyard and Engineering Company (a Swire business), Hong Kong, in 1924, as Ship Draghtsman. In 1937, he was appointed Manager of the dockyard. Finnie was interned at Stanley, and after the war worked on reconstructing and modernising the wrecked dockyard. In 1947-1948, he became the first President of the Engineering Society of Hong Kong.
