Bath Royal Literary and Scientific Institution reference: L04357-084b. Huashana 花沙納 a Mongol, along with He Guiqing 何桂清, and Guiliang 桂良, a Manchu, had been sent to Shanghai to negotiate tariff rates. Photograph by William Jocelyn, taken at the British Consulate, Shanghai. A wood engraving of this image (flipped) was published in 1859 in 'Narrative of the Earl of Elgin's Mission to China and Japan' by Laurence Oliphant, entitled 'Hwashana, Second Imperial Commissioner'. See 'History of Photography in China 1842-1860' by Terry Bennett, pages 137.
