This photograph was taken when Yuan Shikai received foreign envoys in Peking (Beijing) soon after the founding of the Republic of China (See the photograph reproduced on page 125 of 'The Birth of a Republic' by Hanchao Lu (University of Washington Press, 2010). See He03-249.
