University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: Bk07-09. Source: 'Queen Mary’s Needlework Guild – Its Work During the Great War’ (St James Palace, 1914-1919). Members of the Queen Mary's Needlework Guild were involved in making wound dressings, bandages, socks, garments, quilts, etc for allied troops and war refugees. An awkward posed/set up photograph, illustrating improbable use of Japanese parasols by soldiers, airing/convalescing at a hospital or Casualty Clearing Station.
