This is a view of Legation Street, looking towards Hatamen Street, with the Methodist Hospital (also known as the Hopkins Memorial Hospital, which is nowadays the Tongren Hospital (同仁医院) in the background. To the right of the hospital, and across the street, Wannieck's store. Leopold Wannieck was an early postcard publisher of Peking views. A related photograph is reproduced in J.O.P. Bland's 'Recent Events and Present Policies in China' (1912), on page 246, and captioned: 'Patrol of the Legation Guards through the City of Peking, to restore Confidence after the Mutiny of Troops (March, 1912).'
