University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: Bi-s102. When the Japanese sent three officers from Kowloon to Hong Kong island on 13 December 1941, to parlay for the surrender of Hong Kong, they came with two British women as hostages. One of these was Mavis Lee, the wife of the Governor's private secretary, who brought along her two dachshunds, Otto and Mitzi. Source: Out of China by Robert Bickers (Allen Lane, 2017).
