University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: Bo01-084. Suzhou Market Street (royal shopping street) was built around Back Lake, Longevity Hill, Yiheyuan (‘New Summer Palace’), replicating the riverside and canal side shops in Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province. Suzhou Market Street was burnt down in 1860 by the Anglo-French allied force and rebuilt in the 1980s. There was a similar trading street (Sravati) at Yuanmingyuan (‘Old Summer Palace’).
