University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: Ro-s060. Handwritten (incorrect) caption and photographer's stamp on back of photograph. Prob. = Probably. This is Japan's largest passenger ship prewar, completed in 1930 as the 'Chichibu Maru', owned by the NYK Line. In 1938 the ship was renamed 'Kamakura Maru', and it was sunk by a US submarine on 28 April 1943. See Ro-n0500.
