Notes

University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: VH02-124. Bath Royal Literary and Scientific Institution reference: L04357-049a. Two prints (also referenced VH02-125 and VH02-126) stuck in the album side by side, to form a panorama. A name written on the album page beside this photograph, indicating the name of the photographer, appears to be ‘Firmin’. It is tentatively suggested that the name of the photographer is Edward Morris Firmin (partner, Elles & Co., Amoy/Xiamen) or perhaps H.M. Firmin (listed as a clerk at Margesson & Co., Foochow/Fuzhou in 1867). Edward Morris Firmin (1834-1898) was a tea broker, who was born and died in London.
