University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: Ro-n0087. This is the Shanghai-based steamer 'Tembien I', owned by Chinese-Italian Navigation Co. Ltd. This represents a flag-of-convenience arrangement instituted by her real owners Ningshin Steamship Co. Ltd (寧興輪船公司) in 1937 to avoid seizure by Japan.  At that time the ship's name was changed from 'Ningshin'. The ship was built in 1913 and was of 3,439 gross tons. She was captured by Japan in 1941 and sunk in the Yangtse River during the war.
