Notes

University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: Ba06-100. The caption in the album is wrong - this photograph was taken in Hong Kong, probably from the Hotel Mansions / Union Building. The construction of the new Post Office took quite a long time. There are photographs from around 1905 showing construction work (e.g. scaffolds) already started. The Post Office finally opened in 1911. The first building on the left is Jardine House (Jardine, Matheson & Co) - a building which was demolished in 1907. Behind Jardine House is the P&O Building (third generation). Painted advertisements: SMOKE SHEE[...] CIGARETTES / PUREST AND BEST; TRY HEINZ APPLE BUTTER; HEINZ 57 GOOD THINGS; THE MUTUAL STORES.
