Ayre, Leslie Collection
Paymaster Captain Leslie Charles Edward Ayre CBE (1886-1979) was a career officer in the Royal Navy. From 28 November 1928 to February 1931, Ayre was Secretary to the Commander-in-Chief, China Station. Ayre was born in Brenton, Devon, where his father was rector, on 30 May 1886, and he died on 29 January 1979 in Ely, Cambridgeshire.
The album includes photographs of the state funeral of Sun Yat-sen on 31 May 1929, the rendition of the British Leased Territory of Weihaiwai on 1 October 1930, scenes along the Yangzi river, military and diplomatic groups, portraits of country people, and tourist photographs of Beijing, HPC ref: Ay01.
